Rules worth knowing before a deposit

  • The contract names one entity.The company on the quote, the licence holder and the ABN should be the same. A similar trading name can hide a different company.
  • HBC cover comes first.For NSW residential work over A$20,000, the builder must give you an HBC certificate for your site before asking for any payment.
  • The deposit is capped.A deposit over 10% of the contract price is not allowed for NSW residential building work.
